Anwar loses second bid over his sodomy trial.

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Monday lost his second bid to have the judge presiding over his sodomy trial disqualified for bias.

The decision was yet another legal setback for Anwar, who faces 20 years imprisonment if convicted of having illicit sex with a young aide who worked in his office.

The  judge Datuk Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah rejected an application made by Anwar's lawyers today who had cited concerns the PKR de facto leader would not be accorded a fair trial.

Mohd Zabidin granted a stay of proceedings, saying the next mention date for the trial was fixed for Jan 21.

Anwar, 62 is charged with sodomising a former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, at Unit 11-5-1 of the Desa Damansara Condominium in Jalan Setiakasih, Bukit Damansara, here, between 3.01pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

Saiful, Anwar's former aide, had accused the PKR supremo of sodomising him at an upscale condominium here in 2008 according police report : No. Troublesome: 4350/08, Jalan Travers police station, K.L.:

On 06/28/2008 at 1745 a complaint at the HKL by Mohd Saiful Bukhari b. Azlan [No.K / P: 850706-01-5687], age 23 years, to bother content:

"I Mohd Saiful Bukhari b. Azlan to report that I was sodomized by my employer. This happens without my consent. The last incident occurred in Unit 1151 26/6/2008, Kondo Desa Damansara, Jalan Setia Kasih, KL Therefore, the purpose of this report to get redress and justice to me. I am also concerned about the safety of self and my family if this is widespread in public. My employer Dato Sri Anwar Ibrahim, Chairman of the PKR. "
